How To Keep Your Cat salutary - Cat Feeding Explained

Cats have a prestige for being finicky eaters, but that is commonly a distortion of the truth. Cats have a very keen sense of taste and smell, and they know what they like. If you have fed your cat the same food for years, then change brands, she may boycott the new menu. If you must change her diet, do it over time, mixing just a bit of the new food with plentifulness of the old favorite. Gradually growth the amount of new food and decrease the old.

Cats are creatures of habit. Your feline friend will feel more calm and comfortable if you feed her at the same time each day. If more than one cat shares your home, be sure that each has a food and water bowl of its own. This lessens competition, territoriality, and ensures that everybody is getting their fair share of nutrition.

Cats have unusual nutritional needs and you should check the labelling of your chosen cat foods to ensure they are included, or reconsider nutritional supplements. These include:

* Vitamin A

* Niacin

* essential Fatty Acids

* Taurine

The amount and frequency of food you put out depends on the age, health, and operation level of your cat. Kittens under 12 weeks of age commonly need to eat about four times each day. Adult cats benefit from twice-a-day feedings. Read packaging labels or ask your veterinarian for guidelines on how much food your cat should eat each day. Don't panic if your cat skips a meal, but if she doesn't eat for more 48 hours, caress your vet. But, keep in mind that if your cat is allowed to roam outdoors, she may be ruining her appetite at a neighbor's house. Never feed your cat table scraps. They are unhealthy for her, and originate annoying begging behaviors.

I would always pick a meat-based cat food over a vegetable-based one. Despite the fact that you will pay more for the meat food, if you are concerned about the condition of your cat, this will be a cost worth paying. And because meat-based products are ordinarily of best quality, your cat will be satisfied with less of the quality cat food that she would be with a lesser quality product.

Moist, or canned food is commonly a beloved - the moisture amplifies the scent-but make sure your cat also eats dry food regularly. Leave a bowl of dry kibble out for your cat to snack on throughout the day; the crunchy food helps clean her teeth. If you do feed "wet" food, make it available for about 30 minutes, and throw away the uneaten portion. This teaches your cat to "get it while the getting is good." Never leave canned food in a dish all day long; it attracts ants, cockroaches, and creates a bad habit in your cat.

In increasing to a bowl of dry kibble, make sure your cat has plentifulness of fresh water in a clean bowl. If your home is large, or has many levels, reconsider putting out more than one water bowl so that she always has access to water and won't need to try quenching her thirst via an "unsafe" supply.

Most habitancy know that cats are carnivores, or meat eaters, and are puzzled when their cats begin eating houseplants. This could be hazardous - some plants are toxic. A plant-snacking cat may be trying to get required minerals that might be lacking from the market food she eats. Give her access to a planter pot of "cat grass" (available at pet furnish shop and orchad centers), and she'll leave your other plants alone.

Dandelions - Natural health Benefits Even in the Suburbs?

Dare You Eat Suburban Dandelions?

Dandelions comprise a wealth of chlorophyll and nutrients, but what about their environment? Do you dare trust that the good outweighs the chemicals? How safe to consume are these tempting-looking greens? It seems a shame to just pull dandelions without using some of their bounteous offerings.

Last time I was in Whole Foods Market, the going price for a 4 oz bunch of cilantro was .49. Getting raw dark greens for free can at last save you a nice number of money.

With Due Caution, You Can!

It is inherent to treat dandelion greens to take off much of the pesticides, kill bacteria and fungi, and make them fairly accepted food. You may not be able to get organic furnish in your area, and commonly consume commercially-raised vegetables, which do comprise pesticides. Dandelion leaves in the suburbs aren't that distinct from industrial produce, and have a much higher nutrient content.

Many years ago while living in a suburban environment, I commonly foraged for all kinds of wild greens and felt that they enhanced my well-being. Usually, I found them in empty woodlots (using the detox below, you don't have to worry about, ahem! if any dogs wandered straight through the weeds - or for that matter, your yard)!

Suburban Dandelion Shoulds and Shouldn'ts

Don't under any circumstances eat dandelions from a chemically treated lawn, and/or from the roadside where they are exposed directly to auto exhaust! Also, if you are chemically-sensitive, it is best not to eat suburban dandelions at all, and to stick to organic produce.

Ideally, you minimally treat your lawn with natural or the least toxic products, and/or make sure your lawn assistance does the same.

Dandelions settled under the foundation plantings (assuming you don't have your foundation sprayed for ants, or use chemical insect killer on the shrubs) can be utilized. If they are far from the street in a quiet suburban neighborhood, so much the better. After harvesting a compassionate salad bowl full, you can detoxify them. Here's how:

Dandelion Detox

If you don't have clean well water, you will need a consolidate gallons distilled water on hand.

1 - Rinse all dirt off with regular tap water. This may take up to 4 or 5 rinses, but can be done rather quickly. Put the dandelion leaves in a large bowl in the sink and fill with water. Swish the leaves colse to and the dirt will fall to the bottom. Slowly fish the leaves out and put in another bowl while emptying and cleaning the bowl used for rinsing. Repeat until rinse water has no dirt in it.

2 - Now, put the dandelion leaves back in the big bowl, add 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon Clorox bleach and fill with 1 gallon distilled water. Make sure to swish leaves colse to to distribute Clorox, and cover them thoroughly with water. Let stand for 5 - 10 minutes.

3 - Drain Clorox solution out of bowl and lift leaves to let excess water drain from them. Put leaves back in bowl and pour just sufficient distilled water in to cover, pressing leaves down into water. Rinse, refill bowl, and let stand for at least 10 minutes. Because distilled water contains no minerals or other substances, just pure H2O, it is essentially a vacuum that will draw other substances into it. Water is also one of nature's most efficient solvents, so the distilled water alone has some good cleansing properties.

4 - Drain distilled water out of bowl. Your dandelion leaves are now ready for the salad spinner.

A Quick Dandelion recipe for You - Italian-Style Dandelion Salad
Here's a quick and easy recipe that takes me only around10 minutes to make. Serves one (just double or triple it, etc. For more people).

Large handful tender dandelion greens, 1/4 cup chopped Vidalia onion, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and pecans, 2 sliced radishes. Dressing: just the juice of a lemon wedge, one egg yolk, and 1 tablespoon first cold-pressed olive oil. A compassionate sprinkling of grated Peccorino Romano.

Mmmmm.....

How To Exterminate Those Insects Using Boric Acid

Commercial insecticides are normally not good for humans because of the chemicals they contain. However, there is a beloved chemical that can be used as an insect buster but is safe for humans. When people started mining boric acid in Mojave Desert, they started to search for its secrets. Since then people have seen its insecticidal properties being used to eliminate cockroaches, ants, and terminates. Boracic acid (its other name) is beyond doubt beloved as a cheap chemical for controlling annoying insects and pests at home. It kills by dehydrating the bodies of these petite critters without exhibiting toxic effects on humans.

The mixture is safe to humans and an evidence of this is its incorporation in anti-fungal and anti-bacterial ointments. It is known to cure many skin infections caused by bacteria and fungi and it is also used to treat ear infections. It controls microbial growth without being too harsh on the skin.

According to manufacturers, it is the secret component of many products marketed as home insecticides. The odorless acid has been known to eradicate a wide range of unwanted creatures like bedbugs, ants, termites, roaches, centipedes, millipedes, and scorpions, which are all nuisance at home.

For Ant Control

Ants can infest our food supplies at home and they come to be such an irritation. Try mixing a tablespoon of boracic acid to 1 teaspoon of sugar and 4 ounces of water (that's half a cup). Dip cotton in this explication and place the cotton balls in places where there are a lot of ants.

For Termites

The acid should be mixed with a non-toxic antifreeze substance called propylene glycol. This mixture may be applied to wood to prevent infestation of destructive termites. Glycol helps the explication seep into wood so the effect of the explication runs deep.

For Cockroaches

You can use the powder form of the acid which is sufficient in eliminating roaches and other insects.

For Fleas

You sprinkle the acid dust on carpets and let the dust stay there for a week with no vacuuming. The acidic dust kills fleas and mites and their eggs. You can vacuum the carpet after a week.

For normal insecticidal use, you can originate a 10% explication of boracic acid in water and apply it on furniture. But do a test on secret surfaces of furniture to check if discoloration occurs. Don't apply the acid explication right away without doing a discoloration test beforehand. Just don't anticipate effects right away because it takes some time. You may need to reapply for better results. Usually, the insecticide explication can last on surfaces when until your next cleaning.

Check with your local chemical victualer for the powder form of the acid which is sufficient in controlling ants and crawling insects. You can directly pour the powder in cracks and holes where you reason insects are hiding. The powder may also be sprayed on walls and floors of attics or basements which are typical suitable sites for so many insects.

How the acid of boron kills insects is not well understood but only widely observed. It is relatively safe to humans but toxic to insects. Typically, insects should come in caress with the acidic mixture for it to work. It is quite sufficient when added to food items of household pests. Borate pesticides are ordinarily safer than commercially produced artificial pesticides or insecticides. While it may be safe to some degree, you should prevent inhalation of the powder. Also, don't discard the acid of borate in any place because it could contaminate the soil and harm plants when gift at high levels. Boric acid hazards are quite petite and the only danger involves ingestion and inhalation in requisite amounts. With sufficient precaution, you can avoid such mishaps.

Causes And Symptoms Of Streptococcus Infections

Infections caused by the bacteria streptococcus are represented especially by irritation and inflammation of the back throat and tonsils. The symptoms occur sudden and are represented by fever and severe throat pains. Sore throats can be triggered by group C and G streptococci but most commonly the infection is due to the nearnessy of group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus.

The main symptoms of the streptococcus infection causing a sore throat are fever commonly more than 38.5, difficulties and pain during swallowing, inflamed lymph nodes and inflamed and angry tonsils with nearnessy of white or yellow points on their surface. Less common, the streptococcus infections can furnish headaches and abdominal pain as well as rare cases of skin rash, vomiting and lack of appetite. Most of the streptococcus conditions are accompanied by a normal feeling of illness and discomfort.

The time duration between contacting the bacteria and developing the symptoms is commonly of 2-5 days and is called incubation period. Patients that have been exposed to streptococcus are carefully contagious and can spread the infection to others if they show exact symptoms or have not started an antibiotic therapy yet. Also some of the persons without clinical manifestations can spread the bacteria. In 24 to 48 hours after you have started the medication with antibiotics, you are no longer carefully contagious; contacts that do not seek healing help remain contagious for about 2-3 weeks even if the symptoms disappear.

In spite of the cases when the rapid streptococcus test is positive, the most tasteless cause of sore throats is viral infections especially with Influenza. Strep infections do not trigger symptoms like coughs, sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, signs commonly related to dissimilar types of colds. If the mentioned symptoms are present, it is more likely for you to suffer from an Influenza infection than from a streptococcus triggered sore throat.

There are some practical methods to detect streptococcus and be able to prescribe the standard antibiotic therapy. Most beneficial identification methods are the rapid test, the physical examination and the healing history of the patient. The nearnessy of streptococcus detected straight through the rapid test can be confirmed by the most literal, but longer chronic bacterial culture.

Sore throats caused by streptococcus commonly go away in 3-7 days with or without healing care and ant biotherapy. Antibiotics do not sway the curing duration very much but are administered to kill the bacteria and forestall contagiousness and further complications. For benefic effects, antibiotics must be administered within the first 2-3 days after the symptoms have occurred.

Symptomatic treatments for fever, pains and discomfort, are also non-pharmaceutical products, especially homeopathic ones.

Homemade Weed Killer

Many people struggle to kill the weeds in their lawns and gardens for the think that they do not want to use a commercially made chemical herbicide. The protection of using these commercially ready weed killers is not entirely known. While the manufacturers and even government agencies say they are safe the long term affects of the continued use of these toxic chemicals and their affects on people and other living creatures is not entirely known.

For those of us who do not want our children and pets exposed to these toxic chemicals trying to find a way to kill the weeds overgrowing our yards and gardens can be tough. What many people do not comprehend is that there are many non-toxic ways to kill weeds right nearby their home.

While there are many separate recipes out there for a homemade weed killer most of them are based off of the following:

o 1 gallon of white vinegar.

o 1 cup of table salt.

o 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap.

Mix all together production sure the salt is thoroughly dissolved. You can then pour this into a spray bottle or one of those weed sprayers you can get at any garden center. You spray this solution directly on the weeds you want to get rid of preferably on a hot day. One thing to remember with this solution is to not get it on whatever you don't want to kill and don't spray it on the soil. It is non-selective in what it kills meaning it will kill any plant life it comes in sense with and it will sterilize the soil for up to two years depending on how much you get on the soil.

If you are concerned about getting the vinegar solution on your desirable plants you can use a cloth to wipe the solution on the leafy parts of the weeds. This will keep any of the solution from arrival in sense with the plants you want to keep. If you use this recipe it is advisable to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands from the acidic affects of the vinegar.

If you don't want to use this recipe for a homemade weed killer then you can all the time rely on the tried and true recipe of hand-pulling any weeds you find in your landscape. Finally the weeds lose the quality to generate adequate food for their roots to continue to grow and their roots will die off. This precisely works best if you don't have a lot of weeds in your yard or garden.

The nice thing about using a bio-degradable homemade weed killer is that you are not harming the micro-organisms that live in the soil. These micro-organisms generate the fertile environment that helps your lawn, flowers and vegetables grow to their maximum potential. You are also protecting your house and pets from the harmful affects of the commercially ready weed killers on the store today.

Roach Repellent - 5 Ways To Keep Cockroaches Out Of Your Home

Repelling cockroaches is one portion of an integrated pest supervision solution for ridding your home of cockroach infestations. If the roaches don't like the environment of your home, they are less likely to enter and nest in the first place. If you can find roach repellents that don't also repel all the humans you know - even better.

The following 5 roach repellents might just do the trick to make your home the last place a roach wants to live:

Pepper Spray - Roaches don't like red pepper. So, if you spray surfaces in your kitchen and bath with a solution containing red pepper, the will avoid those surfaces. An easy formula to whip up a batch of spray is to mix 2 tablespoons of Tobasco Sauce (the customary ingredients are red pepper and vinegar) with 1 quart of water. Pour it into a pump spray bottle and mist it onto surfaces. A word of caution, you will be misting pepper spray into the air. Until the mist settles, you are likely to sneeze more than a few times. Reconsider wearing a mask when you apply the spray.

Moth Balls - Roaches, like moths, don't like the smell of moth balls. One coarse remedy is to drop a join moth balls behind the stove to keep the bugs from hanging out back there. One or two in the cabinet under the sink can be helpful as well. Moth balls are not good for humans, so don't place them near food or food prep areas.

Cedar Products - The oils in cedar wood are an effective natural prophylactic for a host of bugs. There are many products ready to take benefit of this fact. Look for thin cedar veneers that can be used to line drawers and cabinets, cedar balls, blocks, chips, etc to place in drawers and closets, and (of course) cedar boards and paneling to line closet walls for the ultimate protection.

Mint Oil - Mint oil is a customary ingredient in several non-toxic roach sprays. The roaches avoid it, and when coated with it, they suffocate. The sprays don't kill as fast as typical poisons, but they are safe to use in the kitchen and colse to pets and children. It is potential to create a spray, like the pepper spray, by diluting some Dr. Brauner's Peppermint Castile Soap in water and then applying with a spray bottle. I haven't tried it, but you might be able to create your own roach spray this way if the soap attentiveness is high enough.

Bay Leaves - Bay leaves are an additional one sent that roaches avoid. You can pick up a bunch of dry bay leaves in the spice section of any grocery. Place whole leaves or small sachets of crushed leaves in closets and cabinets. This is a good selection for kitchen cupboards.

With the irregularity of moth balls, there are no perilous chemicals in any of these roach repellents. Give them a try, in compound with baiting, sealing, and applications of diatomaceous earth and boric acid to eliminate roaches from your home.

Natural Flea Killer and Home Remedy For Fleas

Looking for a safe, non-toxic natural flea killer? What about one so safe it can also be used orally as a natural wormer? Diatomaceous earth flea control is the answer. It is the best natural flea remedy: a straightforward home remedy for fleas that nothing else but works.

Paradoxically, in spite of qualified diatomaceous earth insecticide characteristics, De is fully non-toxic to mammals. The toxicity of De is so low that it is not even counted as a foreign substance by the United States department of Agriculture when used in grain for weevil control. It is also stylish for use on organic farms without affecting their organic certification.

Diatomaceous earth (De) is truly qualified and amazingly useful colse to the home and farm, but what is it exactly and how does it work?

It is comprised of the bodies of diatoms - tiny fossilized plant planktons laid down as maritime sediment 20 million or so years ago. There are a range of distinct grades of De, varying in clarity N ัดเจน and fineness.

Science has confirmed diatomaceous earth insecticide properties which work to physically kill insects of all kinds. The tiny diatoms are razor sharp and act to rupture insects' protective outer membranes. Because of its high silica content, the De then acts as a dessicant, killing the insect by drawing out its body moisture.

How To Use Diatomaceous Earth As A Natural Flea Killer

Dog kennels colse to the world are reporting expanding levels of resistance of fleas to chemical flea preparations. We turned to De when the usual back-line flea treatments stopped working for us. We had already used it successfully to control lice in our chickens, and found it just as effective for natural flea control.

It is the simplest home remedy for fleas around. Just dust it lightly all over your pets, in their bedding and in areas they frequent. When applying to carpets, leave in for 3 days and use sparingly as heavy applications can play havoc with vacuum cleaners.

Be warned: the De formulated for swimming pools is Not an acceptable substitute for the ultra-fine grade that is referred to here. Swimming pool De contains crystalline silica which can be dangerous to the respiratory system and is a possible poison.

Natural Born Pest Killers - Home Remedies for Pest control

Not every person likes cucumbers. You may be concerned to learn that ants hate cucumbers, especially cucumber peels. You'll especially appreciate that fact if you want to get rid of them. Just spread some cucumber peels - the more bitter, the great - where ants enter your home and they should get the message. Think cucumber the "anti-welcome" mat for ants.

Cucumbers are one example of natural pest control. It's using natural and ordinarily non-toxic ingredients to repel or get rid of pests including ants, wasps, mites, moths, flies and other insects.

People are slicing up cucumbers instead of spraying Bug-Be-Gone because they don't want toxic chemicals in their homes or in their orchad sheds. There is growing evidence that artificial pesticides pose a health risk to humans and animals.

Here at Planet Natural, we have a whole slew of natural pest controls, including Orange Guard (.95) which uses d-limonene, or orange peel extract, to operate insect pests; Safer BioNeem (.95), which uses the active ingredient of neem oil - azadirachtin - to kill insects before they become biting or reproducing adults; as well as a collection of traps including the Disposable Yellow Jacket Trap (.95) and Apple Maggot Trap (.95).

For those willing to invest some time and effort at crafting their own remedies, we've gone on to list a collection of remedies to help you battle pests on the home front and in your garden.

Barriers act like barbed wire to keep crawling pests, such as ants, out. These include garlic - grind it up with water and apply - cayenne pepper, cinnamon, powdered charcoal, bone meal, talcum powder or chalk. Keep in mind that distinct pests have distinct aversions, so you'll have to see what substance works best with the ones trying to sneak into your home.

Another way to think of barriers is to grow inevitable plants colse to the periphery of your home. They not only look nice, but will also deter pests. Plants known to repel ants and aphids include: spearmint, peppermint and pennyroyal.

You can use the same trick for fly control. Just substitute the above plants with mint and basil which repel flies, but smell good to humans.

Boiling water is exquisite for ant operate or if you see where they are creeping into your house, squeeze some lemon into the hole or crack.

Barriers also work for snails. They dislike sand, lime, copper or ashes, so use these borders to keep snails away.

Baking soda and powdered sugar mixed in equal parts is a good roach killer. Just spread colse to the area where you see roaches and soon you won't see them anymore. (Boric Acid, while slightly more toxic, is simply occurring and is someone else way to get rid of them.)

Here's a authentically sneaky way to get rid of fire ants. (All's fair in love and the war against insect pests.) The only way to get rid of an infestation is to assassinate the queen. Wait until a dry spell is about to end. Sprinkle instant grits on the fire ant hill. The workers will carry the grits to the queen for her royal meal. She'll eat the grits and when it rains, she'll drink. And that's what will kill her. The grits will develop in her stomach and she'll "bloat" to death. Once she's out of the way, the leaderless ants will die off. (This advice came courtesy of the Tightwad Gazette Ii book.)

Cloves smell great than moth balls and are a natural prophylactic against winged pests. You can also create a water trap by filling a small basin with water and leaving a night light suspended over it. Moths will be attracted to the light and will end up crashing and burning and falling into the water. Add a minute dish soap to break the surface tension of the water.

Corn Gluten Meal may not sound very appetizing, but it's a natural, preemptive charge against weeds. Apply it early in the spring before weeds sprout. Corn gluten meal is a byproduct of the corn milling process and is a natural fertilizer.

Diatomaceous earth is made up of the fossilized remains of diatoms, single-cell organisms. The glass-like nature of diatomaceous earth makes it one of the oldest forms of insecticide.
