The Best Natural Pest Preventer

In my recent description on eating organic, I mentioned a stock called Diatomaceous Earth, or De. It's a natural And safe stock used to preclude and destroy pet infestations by home owners and farmers alike. It kills all types of insects, including ticks, ants, and fleas.

Today, I want to talk a little more about De and why it is the best natural pest preventer on the market.

What is Diatomaceous Earth?

De is nothing more than the tiny fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of little algae. This is then ground up into a very fine powder and sold as "Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth."

There is also a pool/filter grade De, but this is highly toxic to humans and pets and undoubtedly Not the De I'm referring to in this article.

How Does it Work?

You're probably wondering how in the world a bunch of old, dried-up algae can destroy Anything!

It's pretty simple, actually:

When Diatomaceous Earth comes into palpate with safe bet insects - like a disgusting, blood-sucking tick, for instance - its super sharp edges tear straight through the bug's exoskeleton. All of the water is then absorbed by the De and the bug dies of dehydration.

No chemicals needful so it's safe sufficient to use around your house, in your garden, and even On your pets as a non-poisonous pest control.

Cool!

How Do You Use De?

It's super easy.

For home/garden use, just spread the Diatomaceous Earth in any place around your premises, paying special concentration to dark, damp areas. An even easier recipe is to mix the De with water and spray the compound using your hose (just like you would with plant fertilizers).

For pets, just rub the powder directly into their fur. You can even put the De into a spray bottle mixed with water and apply it that way, if you wish.

You should begin applying De around your home/on your pets Before the pest you're trying to preclude starts showing up. For ticks, fleas, ants, etc. This normally means mid-to-late spring.

If you already have a flea infestation, De can help you get rid of it. I'll be talking about that more in a soon-to-come article.

Can You Eat It?

While some habitancy Do eat Diatomaceous Earth (I think it's used to "clean the colon" or something), this is not a convention I recommend. There is just no need to consume the fossilized bodies of prehistoric algae.

If you are eating a low fat, high fruit raw vegan diet, your colon is doing just fine.:)

Word Of Caution: No matter what you want to use Diatomaceous Earth for, make sure to buy Food Grade. As I said, the stuff used to clean swimming pools is highly toxic.

How Much Does it Cost?

The best part is that this stuff is incredibly cheap. You can buy a 50 Pound Bag for less than ! I bought 25 lbs of De last summer and I've barely made a dent in it.

Does it indeed Work?

Yes, it indeed does work. I've had two flea infestations in my house and De cleared it right up for me without any need for an exterminator.

No, I'm not being paid buy anyone to say that. I just indeed think De is a great product. It destroys pests, it prevents them from coming back, and it's completely non-toxic!

To think I used to put those horrible, poisonous flea and tick operate products on my little furry friends.

*sigh*

Anyway, go buy some Diatomaceous Earth!:D

Go raw, be fit, and stay pest-free,

Swayze

Natural Home Remedies For Controlling Pest Insects & Bugs

When it comes to pest control, you can spend all sorts of money hiring exterminators or buying smelly (and often toxic) sprays and chemicals for your home, but in some cases, you may not need to go to such extremes. There are a lot of fully natural insect and pest control remedies out there, many of which our ancestors have been using with great success for countless generations. You'll be pleased to know that many of these beneficial items can be found in the mean household.

Though pest control can refer to dealing with pest birds, bugs, and rodents, this report will focus on getting rid of insects.

Insect control in the Garden

Believe it or not, aluminum foil can successfully keep hungry insects and slugs away from your vegetable garden. Naturally mix strips of aluminum foil in with your orchad mulch to deter bugs and slugs. In addition, since foil is reflective, it will shine light back up onto your plants, giving them a solar boost.

Mothballs are an additional one handy insect control gismo for the garden. You've probably heard of using mothballs in the closet to protect your sweaters, but you can also use them to kill bugs on potted plants. Naturally place the plant in a clear plastic bag (i.e. A cleaning bag), add a few mothballs, and seal the bag for a week. When you take the plant out, it will be bug-free (and moths will stay away for a while too). Animals also hate the smell of mothballs, so you can toss a few into your orchad and flowerbed as well, to keep away cats, dogs, and rodents.

Did you know onions are a natural pesticide as well? Here's an easy-to-make concoction that will repel insects (and animals too) in your flowers and vegetables: Use a blender to puree 4 onions, 2 cloves of garlic, 2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper, and one quart of water. Put the combination aside and then dilute 2 tablespoons of soap flakes in 2 gallons of water. Pour all the contents in your blender, stir it up, and this gives you an eco-friendly bug spray to use on your plants.

Black pepper is an additional one home remedy that works great for pest control in the garden. If insects are harassing your flowers, plants, and vegetables, Naturally mix pepper with flour and sprinkle it around your plants. Bugs won't be so eager to munch.

Lastly, you can make your own rock dust to get rid of insects in the garden.

Insect control in the House

Dog and cat food, which is often left out around the clock, can be quite a temptation to ants and other insects. A straightforward way to make these six-legged intruders lose interest is to place a border of baking soda around the pet food bowls. Baking soda won't bother your pets (though they probably won't be keen on the taste), so it's no worry for them if they lap a bit up with their meal.

Another household item good at getting rid of insects is vinegar. For example, if your latest trip to the farmers' market brought back fruit flies as well as wholesome victuals, then you can make traps for the flies by filling an old jar about halfway full with apple cider vinegar. Punch a few holes in the top, screw it back on, and the fruit flies will be attracted and trapped.

These are just a few of the easy ways to use straightforward household items to get rid of insects. So when you're having a problem, don't be so eager to pick up a can of chemical-filled bug spray. Look for natural solutions, and you will very likely find them!

Natural Detox Tips For Bug operate

Another very good intuit for following a detox diet on a regular basis is the methods we use to de-bug our homes and gardens. None of us want our homes to be overrun by ants, our clothes to be eaten by moths or our barbecues to be ruined by a plague of mosquitoes but, when you think about it, sprays or powders that cause insects to drop dead in their tracks cannot be doing us much good either.

Non-Toxic Bug Control

Fortunately, there are abundance of natural, non-toxic ways of dealing with common bugs in the home and garden. Try the following and see for yourself:

The herb tansy, planted in the garden, will deter ants. Indoors, pile dried mint, chilli powder or borax at strategic points.

Finely ground eggshells deter slugs in the garden

Cockroaches, moths and rodents all hate sage, so tie bunches round the home.

Burn citronella candles to deter mosquitoes when you're sitting covering on a summer evening.

Instead of mothballs, use pieces of muslin soaked in cedarwood, camphor or lavender oil and settled colse to the house, especially in wardrobes.

If your cat or dog brings home fleas, vacuum the carpets and soft furnishings and wash what you can in boiling water. Spray tea tree and eucalyptus oils diluted in water onto furniture and carpets. Comb straight through the animal's coat with a compound of olive oil, mint, eucalyptus and tea tree oil, squashing or drowning fleas you comb out, then shampoo with a mild baby shampoo with a few drops of tea tree and eucalyptus mixed in.

For habitancy with asthma related with dust mite allergies, it's best to remove their homes, such as wall-to-wall carpets and over-stuffed soft furnishings. To neutralize dust mites in these areas, just make a cup of very strong black tea, put it in a sprayer and spray on qoute areas. (Obviously, this is not Ideal on cream sofas!)

To get rid of aphids (e.g. Greenfly and blackfly), spider mites and scale mites, steep two garlic cloves in a liter of water for 24 hours, then spray all over the affected plants.

Is there an ants' nest in your garden? If so, just pour boiling water over them. Pure lemon juice works as well but it's better to save it for use in detox drinks and recipes.

To keep wasps away from a picnic or any outdoor meal, half-fill a tumbler with fruit juice and collect a paper lid over the top - hold it in place with a rubber band. Pierce a hole straight through the paper with a pencil. Wasps will crawl through, attracted by the scent of the juice, but will not be able to get out again.

Dandelions - Natural health Benefits Even in the Suburbs?

Dare You Eat Suburban Dandelions?

Dandelions comprise a wealth of chlorophyll and nutrients, but what about their environment? Do you dare trust that the good outweighs the chemicals? How safe to consume are these tempting-looking greens? It seems a shame to just pull dandelions without using some of their bounteous offerings.

Last time I was in Whole Foods Market, the going price for a 4 oz bunch of cilantro was .49. Getting raw dark greens for free can at last save you a nice number of money.

With Due Caution, You Can!

It is inherent to treat dandelion greens to take off much of the pesticides, kill bacteria and fungi, and make them fairly accepted food. You may not be able to get organic furnish in your area, and commonly consume commercially-raised vegetables, which do comprise pesticides. Dandelion leaves in the suburbs aren't that distinct from industrial produce, and have a much higher nutrient content.

Many years ago while living in a suburban environment, I commonly foraged for all kinds of wild greens and felt that they enhanced my well-being. Usually, I found them in empty woodlots (using the detox below, you don't have to worry about, ahem! if any dogs wandered straight through the weeds - or for that matter, your yard)!

Suburban Dandelion Shoulds and Shouldn'ts

Don't under any circumstances eat dandelions from a chemically treated lawn, and/or from the roadside where they are exposed directly to auto exhaust! Also, if you are chemically-sensitive, it is best not to eat suburban dandelions at all, and to stick to organic produce.

Ideally, you minimally treat your lawn with natural or the least toxic products, and/or make sure your lawn assistance does the same.

Dandelions settled under the foundation plantings (assuming you don't have your foundation sprayed for ants, or use chemical insect killer on the shrubs) can be utilized. If they are far from the street in a quiet suburban neighborhood, so much the better. After harvesting a compassionate salad bowl full, you can detoxify them. Here's how:

Dandelion Detox

If you don't have clean well water, you will need a consolidate gallons distilled water on hand.

1 - Rinse all dirt off with regular tap water. This may take up to 4 or 5 rinses, but can be done rather quickly. Put the dandelion leaves in a large bowl in the sink and fill with water. Swish the leaves colse to and the dirt will fall to the bottom. Slowly fish the leaves out and put in another bowl while emptying and cleaning the bowl used for rinsing. Repeat until rinse water has no dirt in it.

2 - Now, put the dandelion leaves back in the big bowl, add 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon Clorox bleach and fill with 1 gallon distilled water. Make sure to swish leaves colse to to distribute Clorox, and cover them thoroughly with water. Let stand for 5 - 10 minutes.

3 - Drain Clorox solution out of bowl and lift leaves to let excess water drain from them. Put leaves back in bowl and pour just sufficient distilled water in to cover, pressing leaves down into water. Rinse, refill bowl, and let stand for at least 10 minutes. Because distilled water contains no minerals or other substances, just pure H2O, it is essentially a vacuum that will draw other substances into it. Water is also one of nature's most efficient solvents, so the distilled water alone has some good cleansing properties.

4 - Drain distilled water out of bowl. Your dandelion leaves are now ready for the salad spinner.

A Quick Dandelion recipe for You - Italian-Style Dandelion Salad
Here's a quick and easy recipe that takes me only around10 minutes to make. Serves one (just double or triple it, etc. For more people).

Large handful tender dandelion greens, 1/4 cup chopped Vidalia onion, 1/2 cup chopped walnuts and pecans, 2 sliced radishes. Dressing: just the juice of a lemon wedge, one egg yolk, and 1 tablespoon first cold-pressed olive oil. A compassionate sprinkling of grated Peccorino Romano.

Mmmmm.....

Natural Flea Killer and Home Remedy For Fleas

Looking for a safe, non-toxic natural flea killer? What about one so safe it can also be used orally as a natural wormer? Diatomaceous earth flea control is the answer. It is the best natural flea remedy: a straightforward home remedy for fleas that nothing else but works.

Paradoxically, in spite of qualified diatomaceous earth insecticide characteristics, De is fully non-toxic to mammals. The toxicity of De is so low that it is not even counted as a foreign substance by the United States department of Agriculture when used in grain for weevil control. It is also stylish for use on organic farms without affecting their organic certification.

Diatomaceous earth (De) is truly qualified and amazingly useful colse to the home and farm, but what is it exactly and how does it work?

It is comprised of the bodies of diatoms - tiny fossilized plant planktons laid down as maritime sediment 20 million or so years ago. There are a range of distinct grades of De, varying in clarity N Ѵਹ and fineness.

Science has confirmed diatomaceous earth insecticide properties which work to physically kill insects of all kinds. The tiny diatoms are razor sharp and act to rupture insects' protective outer membranes. Because of its high silica content, the De then acts as a dessicant, killing the insect by drawing out its body moisture.

How To Use Diatomaceous Earth As A Natural Flea Killer

Dog kennels colse to the world are reporting expanding levels of resistance of fleas to chemical flea preparations. We turned to De when the usual back-line flea treatments stopped working for us. We had already used it successfully to control lice in our chickens, and found it just as effective for natural flea control.

It is the simplest home remedy for fleas around. Just dust it lightly all over your pets, in their bedding and in areas they frequent. When applying to carpets, leave in for 3 days and use sparingly as heavy applications can play havoc with vacuum cleaners.

Be warned: the De formulated for swimming pools is Not an acceptable substitute for the ultra-fine grade that is referred to here. Swimming pool De contains crystalline silica which can be dangerous to the respiratory system and is a possible poison.

Natural Born Pest Killers - Home Remedies for Pest control

Not every person likes cucumbers. You may be concerned to learn that ants hate cucumbers, especially cucumber peels. You'll especially appreciate that fact if you want to get rid of them. Just spread some cucumber peels - the more bitter, the great - where ants enter your home and they should get the message. Think cucumber the "anti-welcome" mat for ants.

Cucumbers are one example of natural pest control. It's using natural and ordinarily non-toxic ingredients to repel or get rid of pests including ants, wasps, mites, moths, flies and other insects.

People are slicing up cucumbers instead of spraying Bug-Be-Gone because they don't want toxic chemicals in their homes or in their orchad sheds. There is growing evidence that artificial pesticides pose a health risk to humans and animals.

Here at Planet Natural, we have a whole slew of natural pest controls, including Orange Guard (.95) which uses d-limonene, or orange peel extract, to operate insect pests; Safer BioNeem (.95), which uses the active ingredient of neem oil - azadirachtin - to kill insects before they become biting or reproducing adults; as well as a collection of traps including the Disposable Yellow Jacket Trap (.95) and Apple Maggot Trap (.95).

For those willing to invest some time and effort at crafting their own remedies, we've gone on to list a collection of remedies to help you battle pests on the home front and in your garden.

Barriers act like barbed wire to keep crawling pests, such as ants, out. These include garlic - grind it up with water and apply - cayenne pepper, cinnamon, powdered charcoal, bone meal, talcum powder or chalk. Keep in mind that distinct pests have distinct aversions, so you'll have to see what substance works best with the ones trying to sneak into your home.

Another way to think of barriers is to grow inevitable plants colse to the periphery of your home. They not only look nice, but will also deter pests. Plants known to repel ants and aphids include: spearmint, peppermint and pennyroyal.

You can use the same trick for fly control. Just substitute the above plants with mint and basil which repel flies, but smell good to humans.

Boiling water is exquisite for ant operate or if you see where they are creeping into your house, squeeze some lemon into the hole or crack.

Barriers also work for snails. They dislike sand, lime, copper or ashes, so use these borders to keep snails away.

Baking soda and powdered sugar mixed in equal parts is a good roach killer. Just spread colse to the area where you see roaches and soon you won't see them anymore. (Boric Acid, while slightly more toxic, is simply occurring and is someone else way to get rid of them.)

Here's a authentically sneaky way to get rid of fire ants. (All's fair in love and the war against insect pests.) The only way to get rid of an infestation is to assassinate the queen. Wait until a dry spell is about to end. Sprinkle instant grits on the fire ant hill. The workers will carry the grits to the queen for her royal meal. She'll eat the grits and when it rains, she'll drink. And that's what will kill her. The grits will develop in her stomach and she'll "bloat" to death. Once she's out of the way, the leaderless ants will die off. (This advice came courtesy of the Tightwad Gazette Ii book.)

Cloves smell great than moth balls and are a natural prophylactic against winged pests. You can also create a water trap by filling a small basin with water and leaving a night light suspended over it. Moths will be attracted to the light and will end up crashing and burning and falling into the water. Add a minute dish soap to break the surface tension of the water.

Corn Gluten Meal may not sound very appetizing, but it's a natural, preemptive charge against weeds. Apply it early in the spring before weeds sprout. Corn gluten meal is a byproduct of the corn milling process and is a natural fertilizer.

Diatomaceous earth is made up of the fossilized remains of diatoms, single-cell organisms. The glass-like nature of diatomaceous earth makes it one of the oldest forms of insecticide. The sharp surfaces cut through the insect cuticle and the insect dies of dehydration. Diatomaceous earth kills earwigs, ants and box elder bugs. Since it's non-discriminate when it kills, be sure to only apply it just to the ground surface where you think insects are overstaying their welcome.

Grind rosemary leaves into a fine dust and sprinkle it onto your pet or its bedding to ward off fleas.

Ivory liquid dishwashing detergent can act as a natural insecticide. Dilute with water until it is a 1 or 2 percent explication and then spray on plants.

Need neem oil? Neem oil - made from guess what? - neem seeds, prevents fungus growth, and repels and kills insects, including mites. While it fights many scourges, it's nontoxic to birds, mammals and most beneficial insects. One word of caution - it can sometime work on bees so use it as a spot rehabilitation to minimize contact. Neem oil is commonly sold in a concentrated form, to which you add water.

Fruit flies are wine connoisseurs. Okay, maybe they are not wine snobs, but they have been known to quaff a few drops here or there. They particularly like Chardonnay or so we hear. Use that knowledge to your advantage: fill up a saucer of some cheap white wine and add a minute detergent to it. Leave it colse to for the flies to sip and die on. This explication brings knew meaning to the expression "rot gut."

A natural fly catcher connected to wine is to put something sickly sweet like mango peels in the lowest of narrow-necked wine bottles. The flies can fly in, but can't fly out.

You can even make your own fly paper. Boil water, sugar and corn syrup together. Spread the extra-sticky combination on brown paper grocery bags and voila you have your own fly paper which will trap flies.

For mosquito operate the aged old convention of burning citronella candles will help repel the pesky critters.

To get rid of slugs and snails, invert a flower pot near a shady plant. Use a stick to prop up the flower pot or place on irregular ground - anyone will give enough of an entry way for slugs and snails. They will crawl under the rim to avoid the heat. Check the flower pot at the end of the day and take off the slugs and snails.

Vinegar is a great herbicide. Fill a spray bottle with vinegar - white is best since it won't stain, you authentically don't want to use expensive, aged Balsamic vinegar on weeds - and spray the vinegar on your unwelcome flora on your porch, patio or back yard. It's one of the few things that will work against noxious weeds such as Canadian Thistle. All vinegars are diluted, so try and buy the highest attention you can at the supermarket.

Using organic lawn fertilizers will not only keep it green, it will make it wholesome and more qualified to defend itself against weeds and pests. Organic fertilizers, such as bat guano, grass clippings, alfalfa meal, fish emulsion and worm castings, work well.

While natural pest operate products are a step up from most industrial insecticides, you should still be restrained about using them. Don't just leap at something that cures the indication of illness - look for the basal or root cause and seek a explication for that problem. Overuse can end up creating new problems - getting rid of one pest in exchange for another.

That said, natural pest operate can be a great non-toxic explication to retention your orchad and home pest free.

manufacture Natural Ant Killer

Have an ant infestation? Rather than calling an exterminator, try a more organic approach to killing them by using a natural ant killer. It is a uncomplicated process and is often more efficient and economy than store-bought or exterminator provided products. Battling ants is something that every asset owner or renter will have to ultimately accomplish. Although you won't see them all, colonies of invading ants can amount in the millions and overcome nearly any fence that blocks their path. I've been trying to kill ants colse to my house for about a year now. I've tried most of the store products and even had one of the best local pest operate department come colse to regularly. Seems all they, or I, used was only temporary. I spray down liquids, and the ants have a cocktail party; put down granules and they have a block party. It's been ridiculous! That is until recently when I found a integrate of natural ant killer remedies that seem to work well.

Start by following the trail. Find out where they are arrival from, and where they are going to. It may be a real long distance and may, at some point, seem to disappear into a wall only to come back out a miniature added on. Finding where they are arrival from is more foremost than Finding out where they are entering your house.

Non Toxic Ant Killer

Baiting the exterior using a non-toxic natural alternative. What do ants normally invade your space for? Food! So give them something they want. Once you have their trail identified, sprinkle instant grits all along the trail. Also pour generous portions of instant grits colse to each ant mound whilst not disturbing the area. Actually, if you want to spend the money, sprinkle them all colse to the covering of your house as well.

  • Although the grits will not kill the ants instantly, they will eat it and carry it back to their nests where others eat it as well. Then, when they least expect it, the grits charge from the inside. You see, grits are absorbent and after the ants eat the grits, the grits begin to enlarge as they soak up physical fluids. As a result, the ants die from the inside out. Since grits are absorbent, you don't want to put them down when the ground is wet, so remember to only use this technique on clear sunny days when rain is not expected. It is very foremost to keep the instant grits dry before and after use.

Baiting the interior using a non-toxic alternative. Grits are good for covering use, but most people will not want to sprinkle them colse to the interior of their house, so here is an alternative method.

  • Pickup the following items: boric acid, cotton balls, sugar, a 2 cup jar and a plastic box with a lid. In the jar, dissolve 1 teaspoon boric acid and 6 tablespoons of sugar into 2 cups hot water.
  • Soak the cotton balls in the solution and put into the plastic container. A soft butter or cottage cheese box works well. Put the lit on and poke a bunch of 1/8 inch holes in the top.
  • Now place it in the area where ants are entering you house. You may consideration a temporary increase in the amount of ants, but ultimately they will all go away.

Tips & Warnings. There are a few tips and warnings to consider when using natural ant killers.

  • If you live near water, do not feed instant grits to ducks, because it can cause death. When the grits swell, they produce gas; something ducks and geese are unable to expel!
  • Keep the boric acid solution away from children and pets.

Battling ants is something that every property owner or renter will have to eventually accomplish. Although you won't see them all, colonies of invading ants can number in the millions and overcome nearly any barricade that blocks their path. I've been trying to kill ants around my house for about a year now. I've tried most of the store products and even had one of the best local pest control group come around regularly. Seems all they, or I, used was only temporary. I spray down liquids, and the ants have a cocktail party; put down granules and they have a block party. It's been ridiculous! That is until recently when I found a join of natural ant killer remedies that seem to work well.

Start by following the trail. Find out where they are arrival from, and where they are going to. Baiting the exterior using a non-toxic natural alternative. What do ants regularly invade your space for? Food! So give them something they want. Once you have their trail identified, sprinkle instant grits all along the trail. Also pour generous portions of instant grits around each ant mound whilst not disturbing the area. Actually, if you want to spend the money, sprinkle them all around the outside of your house as well.

  • Although the grits will not kill the ants instantly, they will eat it and carry it back to their nests where others eat it as well. Then, when they least expect it, the grits strike from the inside.

Grits are good for outside use, but most population will not want to sprinkle them around the interior of their house, so here is an alternative method.

  • Pickup the following items: boric acid, cotton balls, sugar, a 2 cup jar and a plastic container with a lid. In the jar, dissolve 1 teaspoon boric acid and 6 tablespoons of sugar into 2 cups hot water.
  • Soak the cotton balls in the solution and put into the plastic container. A soft butter or bungalow cheese container works well. Put the lit on and poke a bunch of 1/8 inch holes in the top.
  • Now place it in the area where ants are entering you house. You may notice a temporary increase in the number of ants, but eventually they will all go away.

Tips & Warnings. There are a few tips and warnings to think when using natural ant killers.

  • If you live near water, do not feed instant grits to ducks, because it can cause death. When the grits swell, they produce gas; something ducks and geese are unable to expel!
  • Keep the boric acid solution away from children and pets.
